My tryst with outdoor obstacle races-my take on world health day!

Today is World Health Day.It is a day to create global health awareness.Have I been doing anything?Nope!Do I want to?Obviously(duh!)But yeah I do have something I can write about anyway(Yay!) Ok mini confession time,my secret dream is to be one of those muscular fit chicks who can do cartwheels and a headstand. I’ve always been a heavy person(between periods of being fat-not the same thing!)I took to body building last year and quite loved the adrenaline rush but again life happened and I had to quit after making superb progress(lost 25 kgs)

Anyways, moving on, I found doing outdoor obstacle races put me on a high.I guess not only do they make me feel alive but they also subtly remind me that I can do it if I put my mind to it.

I took part in my first Spartan race last year.I was ambitious,I did the Super!Ok so I didn’t really do justice to it and I was on the bottom rung of the finishers(not the last!!) but hey,I finished and that’s all that mattered to me at that point.I am seriously considering doing the trifecta before I turn 40 but yeah that’s another aim in my to-do list at the moment.

Of course I couldn't do it alone and needed a wing man to get me going and I found the perfect one-my son!Shiven loves 'winning' medals and that is his motivation. To spur him on-(and I'd like to think that)- is the fact that if old mamma can do it,so can he!

We did Spartan together,he did the kids marathon(I can't run!) and yesterday we took over the NOS challenge.

For those of you who don't know or want to know about it,NOS stands for National Obstacle Series and is the ONLY inflatable obstacle series in Oman. In fact, it’s the only one in the whole region! The 3 km race (for adults – it’s 1 km for kids), has 10 of the world’s largest inflatable obstacles, placed at strategic points.Read more about it here.

One of the obstacles was apparently the size of 5 camels in terms of height.Well, considering I've been so out of focus when it comes to a fitness level,it wasn't easy.I had my moments where I blanked out,got scared of looking down(did I mention I have acrophobia??) and felt miserable for not being light footed but yeah it was finally done and I was pretty happy.

NOS was also a family event with fun elements and things for kids and non participants to do at the arena.I wouldn't consider this as a serious sporting event but it was definitely worth a mention. It was inaugurated just yesterday so for all you know it might just get tougher over the months to come.It was challenging enough for me so yeah I will definitely consider it in my 'sporting events' list of the year(if I ever get around to making one!)
